Teaching aids class
Teacher: Pamela Rodriguez
Reflexive
essay
When we listen the term teaching aids immediately
we think about poster, flash cards, and games, that’s true but in our case the
class was developed in another way. Until we started the class in a different
way, simple but effectively. The teaching aids are very important in TESOL
classes because is an important part of the development of each method that we
learn in the English program, methods that we are going to use in order to
teach our students.
With respect to teaching aids class in
this term we learned about different things, first we discussed in class what
the teaching materials are, also what things we have to consider in the moment
to create and select the teaching material to a class. Then we learned
different games or activities to develop in class, after that we started with
the design of teaching materials as posters, games, flashcards, but these kind
of activities were not a good way to evaluation and the teacher considered
better change the evaluation, and we started to do micro-teachings, two of them
in the classroom and the final micro-teaching was in other classrooms. Finally we
had to create a blog where we had to put all the material that we used during
the class.
In the other hand if I have to think about
the experiences that the class gave me, I have to say that the most part of my
experiences were unpleasant, because never
in all my academic life I had felt that the teacher had favoritism with some
students and also that I did not have the capacity to do something. Also a felt
frustration because I could not finish with my micro-
teachings and if a have to think in something positive, I
going to say that I learned how to act in front of these situations and the
next time I am going to do it better.
Nevertheless the biggest
limitation that I had in this class was the design of teaching materials,
because I am not a very creative person, I prefer do not use material. But I worked
really hard to overcome this limitation and the few materials that I had to do
for me were good, because the best way to overcome a limitations is trying and
if you cannot the first time, try again one day you are going to do it better.
Finally after teaching aids class, I think
that teaching materials are very important in TESOL classes but not the most
important part of it, because we can teach something without a poster, without
a set of flashcards but not without a very prepared teacher in the classroom,
we as a teachers have to know that beyond to design beautiful material, we must
have the capacity to improvise with the resources that we already have in the
classroom.
